Infra-tag

Lady Eleanor Holles – Years 10-11

Reducing the need to create new products

We created a lost item tracking tag, Infra-tag. Infra-tag attaches to belongings so people can track them via GPS and infrared. GPS traces the location of the belonging and when you’re near it, you can use an infra-red sensor on the remote to detect an accurate location, making it easier to find. Currently, you need to plug the remote into a computer to get the coordinates of the tag but in the future, we aim to develop an app or separate device to eliminate this restriction.

The average person loses 3,000 possessions in their lifetime according to the Daily News. That’s an average of about 50 items a year for the average person living past their sixties! The main purpose of Infra-tag is to combat this problem and reduce the effects of unsustainable issues such as fast fashion, as well as economic issues linked with rebuying valuables. If we can decrease the need to rebuy items, we can also decrease the use of Earth's natural resources to create new products.

Our product is used by attaching the Infra-tag to a box of items or a suitcase. When it goes missing, you plug in your remote and press locate, it will send GPS coordinates of the 5-metre area of your lost item. When you get to the GPS area, you can point the infrared sensor to find the tag.
