In this episode of the Net Hero Podcast, we explore the turbulent reality of greening the skies. We discuss why the world cannot stop flying and why hydrogen and electric planes aren't the immediate solution the industry needs right now.

You’ll hear about the key findings from our Cacophony to symphony report, and discover how the aviation sector intends to bridge the gap between expensive green fuels and mass adoption.

We discuss why holding out for a flawless solution risks stalling progress entirely, why sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) remains the primary lever for decarbonisation over the next decade and a half, and the difficult question of who should ultimately cover the cost of the green transition.

We cannot afford to wait another 25 years in the hope that we can replace a wide-body aircraft flying between New York and London, for example, with 100% hydrogen propulsion or fully electric. About 75% of all emissions are on aircraft today and will be for the next 25 years where current roadmaps of available technologies… cannot replace them. So basically our choice is: do something using SAF, which is available today… It is a solution. It may not be the solution forever… But certainly it’s the best solution, best suite of solutions that we have today.”
