An autonomous vehicle (AV) can operate itself and perform necessary functions without human intervention. It can sense and process its environment and take action based on processing data.

By removing humans from the Observe-Orient-Decide-Act (OODA) loop, AVs allow humans to govern the overall process, positioned ‘on the loop’ rather than ‘in the loop’. AVs have the potential to enhance safety and enable a future with reduced carbon consumption.
