In an industry hit by changing priorities and cuts to government spending, BAE Systems – one of the world’s largest defence, aerospace and security companies – needs to become more competitive and drive high-performance delivery. In recognition of our work in talent development and transformation, as well as our understanding of defence, they asked PA to equip 800 of their senior leaders in the UK with the skills to deliver the large-scale changes required.
To do this, we designed the 'Leading for total performance' programme as a catalyst for change and delivered it across nine UK businesses. The programme included two large-scale and innovative change events for senior leaders as well as small-group sessions with change leaders from other industries to bring home the case for change and encourage collaboration and new behaviours. Additional modules covered core change-leadership skills, providing a wide range of valuable tools and techniques for leaders of change and help putting them into practice.
The programme has delivered exceptional results. Leaders feel more empowered to make strategic decisions and influence the vision, direction and strategy of their business; they are challenging existing ways and mindsets; and they are taking personal accountability for delivering change effectively. The programme has been recognised in BAE Systems’ highly coveted internal Chairman’s Awards programme.
