Rob Whewell and Bob Duncan from PA Consulting Group, the leading international management, systems and technology consultancy, will examine current models for pharmaceutical distribution in Europe, and what can be learned from other industry sectors, in a paper and post-conference workshop at SMi’s 2003 European Wholesale and Distribution in the Pharmaceutical Industry, The Hatton, London 10-12 November 2003.
Rob Whewell and Bob Duncan, both consultants in PA’s Life Sciences and Healthcare practice with extensive insight to supply chain issues, will identify key pressures forcing the pharmaceutical industry to reconsider the way in which it supplies products to patients, such as:
- pressure on costs
- pan-European wholesalers
- short-line wholesalers and parallel trade
- Eastern Europe accession markets
- counterfeit threats and diversion
- access to medicines (Shipman Enquiry).
They will:
- identify the options provided by new technologies -such as RFID and unique pack identification methods and
- pinpoint ‘better practice’ in other European industry sectors which, if adopted by pharmaceuticals, could bring benefit.
The paper, 11 November (2pm) is entitled 'Comparing and contrasting pharmaceutical distribution with other best practices'.
The one-day workshop/interactive Executive Briefing on 12 November (registration 9am) entitled 'Wholesale and distribution within Europe – opportunities and threats' will encourage attendees to interpret the above issues for business advantage within their own organisation.
The sessions will be of particular interest to commercial managers in European pharmaceutical companies who have responsibility for marketing strategy.
