PA Consulting’s Simon Williams, payments innovation expert, comments on the growing trend of central bank digital currencies in an article by Bill Lumley in The Banker.

Commenting on these developments, Simon explains: “there are positive developments emerging in the US, Europe and parts of Asia, but he predicts the real breakthrough will be in capital markets. “This is evident in the upcoming pilots of the digital euro”.

He adds: “For global core payments infrastructure, central bank digital currencies provide the opportunity for streamlined, traceable payments that enable more straightforward application of anti-money laundering and sanctions monitoring”.
