PA Consulting and American Academy of Dermatology partner on multi-year registry development project to streamline quality reporting and deliver new clinical innovations

04 March 2024

PA Consulting (PA), the company that's bringing ingenuity to life, is teaming up with the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) on a multi-year project to build and operate a next-generation, qualified clinical data registry that will help dermatologists practice evidence-based medicine, streamline quality reporting, advance medical research, and improve patient care.

The AAD currently operates DataDerm, dermatology’s largest clinical data registry. Today, dermatologists across the U.S. participate in DataDerm to assess and optimize care, report Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) information to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and facilitate research and scholarly outputs. Since its inception, DataDerm has collected data on over 54 million patient visits from participating physicians across a broad range of practice settings, from those in private practice to hospital-based physicians.

PA Consulting will partner with the AAD to build a user-friendly platform, integrate data from thousands of dermatology practices, and derive valuable insights from structured and unstructured clinical data using the latest cloud-based technology.

The initial development for the future DataDerm platform will focus on enhancing and streamlining MIPS reporting. It will also enhance the AAD’s ability to expand the registry’s use for research, advocacy, education and beyond. Over time, the new platform will also offer opportunities to develop new member dashboards and tools for practice management.

“We are thrilled to partner with the American Academy of Dermatology on this important project,” said Nilesh Chandra, healthcare expert and partner at PA Consulting. “The new DataDerm platform is the leading clinical data repository for dermatologists, enabling a variety of use cases from quality reporting to research and advocacy to clinical decision-making. The partnership represents a forward-thinking approach to boosting quality reporting and using data to enhance dermatologic care.”

“The AAD’s partnership with PA Consulting will provide our members with a better user experience with DataDerm,” said Marta Van Beek, MD, MPH, FAAD, chair of the DataDerm Oversight Committee. “This new platform will allow us to be more nimble in how we can use and learn from the data to advocate for the specialty and improve patient care. This is a new chapter for DataDerm.”
