G20 leaders urged to tackle regulatory fragmentation

Christina Herrmann, a financial services regulation expert at PA Consulting, is quoted in Global Risk Regulator’s article on global regulatory fragmentation.

Christina says: “In the decade since the 2007-2009 global financial crisis there has been regulatory harmonisation across the US and Europe, particularly around areas such as capital requirements, risk management, governance and accountability in existing financial services business.”

The article notes that Christina sees fragmentation occurring in areas of the financial markets driven by new technology, which leaves firms facing uneven regulatory landscapes.

“The uncertainty which stems from such fragmentation can inhibit growth and innovation,” she adds.
