PA’s Torsten Jacobsen, ERP expert, discusses why ERP systems are not the best approach for managing customer-facing processes, CRM and business intelligence. Torsten refers to PA’s ERP survey, which shows that the challenge that worries CIOs the most is the lack of flexibility in ERP systems.

Torsten says: “The problem is that businesses keep changing, as do customers’ demands. However, as ERP systems are fundamentally pieces of software based on standard processes, and configured to be tailor-made for the business at a given point in time, they are unable to keep up.”

Torsten suggests that companies bypass their ERP systems for processes that demand a high level of readjustment and instead find a best-of-breed solution. ERP can then be used for more static processes.
