PA Consulting has announced it will help the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) build a digital platform for its recently established Emergency Medicine Data Institute (EMDI).

PA will support the ACEP – the professional society for 40,000 emergency physician members in the US – with building a next-gen platform that integrates and collects clinical and billing data from 1,000+ hospitals and delivers new digital products and services to help enhance care.

The organization’s recently launched data institute encompasses a clinical emergency data registry that provides insight on nearly a quarter of emergency department visits in the US. The data registry has immense value that can be leveraged to identify optimal clinical practices, develop new treatments and therapies, and reduce reporting burden.

As a common entry point into the healthcare system, the effective use of emergency department data can help support healthcare research, provide insights into utilization and patient journeys, and provide early warning signs for future health crises.

“The ACEP Emergency Medicine Data Institute will transform information that physicians and others can rely on to support clinical innovation and patient management,” said Gillian Schmitz, MD, FACEP, president of ACEP. “We are very excited to launch a resource with the potential to transform care delivery and empower clinicians at the bedside with analytics from emergency departments around the country.”

Nilesh says: “We know that large scale datasets are critically important to solving the most pressing challenges in healthcare. This was true in the 1840s when John Snow used incidence and address information to trace a cholera outbreak to a water well in London, and data’s importance has been made abundantly clear in the last few years with the COVID-19 pandemic.”

He adds: “We are very excited to be selected as partners to ACEP in this endeavor, with the EMDI.”
