A global response to child exploitation

Working together to end the sexual abuse of children online

internet safety and security isn't protecting children

Online sexual exploitation and abuse of children is the most sinister form of cybercrime. Efforts have been made to better protect children, but this report highlights the need for a global response to solve such a global problem.

More can be done to stop technology enabling abuse. The internet gives offenders unprecedented access to victims around the world, and new ways of exploiting children on a devastating scale. The numbers in this report speak for themselves:

80,000 abuse images per month found by project ARACHNID

10.2 million reports to the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in 2017

More than one million users of one abuse site found by the Department of Justice

UNCOVERING VULNERABILITIES WITH THE WEPROTECT GLOBAL ALLIANCE

To highlight online vulnerabilities and help protect children, we’ve worked with the WePROTECT Global Alliance to create the first Global Threat Assessment. The report draws on an international network of law enforcement, governments and non-governmental organisations to assess the threat of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

This will ensure countries and organisations have a consistent approach to identifying, managing and preventing this growing, persistent and historically unseen threat, globally.
