UK summer internships
If you’re a penultimate-year undergraduate (or finalist planning a Master’s), we have a number of summer internship options available. Our internships are eight-weeks long and will give you the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and insight into life at PA.
Our summer internship programmes are designed to give you practical experience and insight working on client or internal projects. We have roles in consulting, and in design, engineering, and science.
As part of the summer internship programme, you’ll get access to unique learning and development opportunities, and be encouraged to build your network and collaborate with our people to achieve impactful results. Towards the end of the internship, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your project and learnings to an audience at PA.
Consulting
During our eight-week Summer Internship, you’ll experience a condensed version of our Graduate Consulting Rotational Programme. As an intern, you’ll join a multidisciplinary team, supporting clients in making crucial decisions and creating real impact, all within a fast-paced environment. By joining the internship, you’ll play an active role in delivering meaningful outcomes and gain valuable insight into the world of business consulting.
I’ve built a fantastic network during my internship, connecting with people at all levels across the business. I’ve worked on fun, impactful projects and enjoyed every moment. I’m really looking forward to returning in October as a graduate.”
The best part of the programme was the exposure to diverse projects and the chance to collaborate with experts from across the business. It was great way to learn quickly and build confidence in a supportive environment.”
Design, engineering, and science (DES)
Our eight-week internship, based in our Global Innovation and Technology Centre in Melbourn, Cambridgeshire is a great opportunity to experience what life would be like here as a Graduate. You will work on an exciting project related to one of our clients with a number of other interns.
We provide you with opportunities to work closely with experienced and knowledgeable colleagues from across the design, applied science, software, and engineering disciplines as you design, test, and build new products and systems. At the end of the internship you will present back to a number of consultants.
You’ll design, test, and build groundbreaking products. You’ll work hands-on in labs and workshops, develop new materials, assemble prototypes, and analyse product interactions. Applicants must be studying towards an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
For those studying an electronic engineering degree, this is a great role for candidates to apply their passion for electronics and hands-on experience in DSP, FPGA, microcontrollers, embedded C, power electronics, and RF systems. Ideal for current graduates eager to innovate and solve real-world challenges in a dynamic product design environment.
You will use your talent and experience to design, develop, and deliver an open-ended project selected by our consultants. Work could include developing innovative software solutions using languages like C++, Python, C, or C# or applying modern practices such as agile, TDD, and CI while working on embedded devices, cloud integration, IoT, advanced image processing, VR, and safety-critical applications in medical, defence, and transport sectors. Studying a degree in a related subject is expected.
You’ll tackle real-world projects in sustainability, healthcare, and technology – ranging from developing new materials and medical devices to scaling up innovative processes. Applicants should be studying towards an undergraduate degree in physics, chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related subject.
One of the best parts of the internship has been the community – among interns and our support network. It’s a collaborative environment where I’ve expanded my knowledge across many areas and seen real-world applications live in action at the Global Innovation and Technology Centre.”
One of the things I’ve valued most during my internship is the freedom to be creative. From brainstorming ideas to shaping real solutions, I’ve had the space to think differently and explore new approaches in a real work setting.”
