Sir - Despite pessimism surrounding 3G, by the end of 2005 many 3G networks across Europe will have reached their capacity limits. A direct result of this will be 3G network bottlenecks in areas such as football stadiums and train stations, where demand for broadband services in high.
MmO2’s decision to roll out Europe’s first High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network is positive confirmation that operators have concerns over existing 3G limits and are already faced with the spectre of running out of 3G capacity.
HSDPA is an evolved version of 3G that will boost delivery rates five to tenfold - an increase sufficient to meet increased demand and deal with the most sophisticated applications.
