Metroselskabet
Shaping the future of The Copenhagen Metro
Metroselskabet faced an important transition as its current Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contracts were set to expire in 2027. As the public transit authority responsible for the Metro in Copenhagen, Metroselskabet sought to run a competitive tender for the new contracts.
Establishing a vision for the decades ahead
The Copenhagen Metro is a sustainable, reliable, and safe way to get around Copenhagen, serving around 400,000 passengers on an average weekday.
With the existing O&M contracts for all four metro lines set to expire, Metroselskabet had to stand up a procurement process to conclude well before the expiry deadline. In addition, the authority wanted to combine an additional two separate contracts that were set to run after the initial expiry deadline.
PA and Jacobs’ combined offering brought together public transit, metro operations and maintenance expertise, alongside strategic and technical proficiency in light rail system design, construction, operation, and maintenance.
Translating strategy into technical specifications
Together with Metroselskabet we developed a tender strategy and translated existing contracts into a clear set of technical specifications.
The Copenhagen Metro operates at an exceptionally high standard. In developing the specifications for the new O&M contract, the primary goal was to maintain these high-performing elements and at the same time consider new requirements.”
To inform the requirements, we demonstrated how insights from other metro and transit systems could be applied to Copenhagen’s unique context.
And it wasn’t just the deep technical know-how that we brought to the project. It was also how we approached the work.
We worked seamlessly with our client as a single team in an agile, transparent manner. This enabled us to deliver results quickly while maintaining a high degree of flexibility, ensuring that the tender specifications aligned closely with Metroselskabet’s long-term goals.”
