Land Rover BAR wins final event in Japan to become champions.
Sir Ben Ainslie and new entrants team Land Rover BAR have delivered an incredible performance in Fukuoka, Japan, to win the final round of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series (ACWS). With this historic win they become 2015-2016 ACWS Champions. The World Series win means that the team will now take two vital bonus points into the next round of the competition, the America's Cup Qualifiers, starting 26 May 2017 in Bermuda.
Ben Ainslie, Skipper and Team Principal, says: "It was an amazing day for the team because our core goal was to win the overall series, that is what we came here to do. To achieve that and come out on top in the final event to get four regatta wins in the overall series, that is a huge achievement from a completely new team."
PA has joined with Olympic gold medallist Sir Ben Ainslie and new entrants team Land Rover BAR, in their challenge to win the America's Cup in 2017.
Land Rover BAR has core technical, design and engineering knowledge – but the broad sweep of modern scientific and technological advancement means there will always be opportunities from other industries. Together, PA and Land Rover BAR have launched the Technical Innovation Group (TIG) to bring together the best of British industry to contribute to this unique technical and sporting challenge.
The task of the TIG is to find advanced technologies and develop them to provide a race winning edge to the team. The TIG steering group, chaired by PA, initiated and now guides the existing design team with an external, world-class, multidisciplinary research and development group.
It allows the team to rapidly develop, prove and apply new technologies. The TIG provides technological insight and manages innovative projects in areas such as human factors, boat dynamics, sensors and controls, and data and analytics.
