Energy

PA's New Zealand-based consultants have been at the forefront of energy industry reform worldwide since the mid-1990s. We have pioneered the establishment of electricity market developments in a number of jurisdictions around the world including New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, Ontario and Ireland. More recently, we have assisted with the development, refinement and on-going operation and regulation of many of these markets, as well as policy developments within the energy sector more generally. 

PA also acts as a “market auditor” assuring compliance of electricity market operations with the governing market rules. Our assurance activities cover the market clearing and settlement software and their underlying mathematical formulations as well as the business processes and procedures used to discharge the responsibilities of the market and system operators more generally. PA is currently the market auditor for the New Zealand, Western Australia, and Philippines electricity markets and has undertaken recent assurance assignments for the market operators in Ontario, New York and New England.

Our long term involvement in the development, operation and regulation and assurance of electricity markets within the region means that our consultants are frequently called upon by investment banks to assist in the valuation of energy assets. PA’s sophisticated market dispatch and gaming simulation tools mean that we can explore a range of different scenarios providing a rich picture of the asset’s likely future revenue and profitability.
