Manchester Integrating Medicine and Innovative Technology (MIMIT) is a technology-development organisation operated by the University of Manchester’s School of Medicine.
With partners in the NHS and academia, MIMIT identifies pressing clinical needs – such as the need to improve the detection of infection in wound dressings – and works with the university to develop technologies to meet them. As MIMIT relies on funding from local NHS hospital trusts, there is an opportunity for rapid expansion through accessing other public and private investment.
As part of our translational medicine programme, which helps drive understanding of the mechanism of disease, we have supported MIMIT in the identification of new funding models and initiatives to secure long-term investment.
By analysing MIMIT’s innovations, for example, we showed their viability as investment opportunities. We enhanced MIMIT’s profile among government, funding agencies and investors and sought the views of a range of experts to clarify their requirements.
Sharing this insight with MIMIT’s people is guiding change in the way they work together and has helped develop proposals to securefunding to both progress and scale-up their activities.
