Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) is the leading membership organization and continuing education provider for nurses in emergency nursing, training over 60,000 nurses every year. While continuing nursing education has largely been classroom-based, the ENA wanted to incorporate more innovative components.
Digital options let people learn at a time, place and pace of their choosing and in a format that’s most effective for them. Bringing in digital options alongside traditional classroom-based delivery would make the courses more appealing and allow ENA to provide highly customized courses. They asked us to assess their business model for their core training products and help them develop it to build in more digital elements.
Working closely with ENA’s leadership team, we agreed on several ideas to develop as the basis for their future education business. The ideas ranged from adopting agile approaches for revising content faster to piloting new, digital courses that leverage the latest technologies (like augmented reality and virtual reality). We developed a set of recommendations identifying 20 priority projects to lay the foundations for the new vision. The projects included simplifying manual processes as well as experimenting with new technology within their course options.
As ENA enhances their offerings, they can continue to be a leader in emergency nursing education and drive innovation in models of care. That means they’ll be able to carry on supporting their core mission: to advocate for patient safety and deliver excellent emergency care.
"PA acted as a true strategic partner to us in our planning work. Through their practical, business-minded approach, their independent advice and their commitment to collaboration, they painted a vision for the future and helped secure buy-in across our organization and with our leadership.”
