Choosing the right sourcing solution

“If I were to launch a new IT department, I would never build the IT platforms myself.”

In Version2, PA sourcing expert Peter Skyttegaard explains why multi-vendor sourcing is the right approach for implementing new IT solutions.

Referring to his time as Head of Strategy and Process Management at Maersk Line, Peter says: “I took over a number of proprietary solutions, which were no doubt useful when they were made but had become outdated. If I were to launch a new IT department, I would never build the IT platforms myself.”

Peter goes on to describe how he led the transition from a traditional, horizontal outsourcing approach to a vertical multi-vendor outsourcing approach. He explains that going from proprietary programmes to a number of external suppliers implies a change of culture, and that calls for employees to adapt to the new standards: “As soon as a company starts using different standard solutions, it calls for a readjustment to the new terms.”
