Charlie Henderson, transport, travel and logistics expert, shares his views on how the transportation sector can use the unique circumstances Covid has provided to develop a better future for us all at the Highways UK event.
A series of discussions at the event underlined that recovery from Covid and the need to address the climate emergency give the transportation sector an unprecedented opportunity to take a lead in shaping better infrastructure and services.
Charlie commented: “Our ambition needs to be more than ‘let’s get things back to how they were’. We should be thinking about how we can use these unique circumstances to develop a better future for us all.”
He added that this will require vision, agility and leadership, and urged wider engagement beyond the sector, stating that the nature of change needed “will be complex and there will not be a single solution”.
Other speakers at the event included TRL’s chief executive Paul Campion, RAC Foundation director Steve Gooding, and Arup’s infrastructure design director Tim Chapman.
