NHS urged to shed market systems

Nicholas Timmins
Financial Times 8 July 2008

The British Medical Association says that the NHS in England should be urged to lose market systems and run like Scotland's health service.

PA's Andy Mullins says that, given their size, geography and politics, "Wales and Scotland may be right in saying that in their case market forces won't work".

But Mr Mullins added that big questions remain over whether their more traditional planned approach "will have the teeth to deliver better outcomes".
