Santander hacking plot foiled by police

Sky News

13 September 2013

PA Consulting Group is interviewed by Sky News on a breaking news story regarding the arrest of twelve men over an attempt to take control of a Santander bank's computer and steal millions of pounds. The plot was foiled by police following an intelligence operation.

The men allegedly fitted a branch computer with a ‘keyboard video mouse’. This device allowed them to transmit the contents of the computer's desktop and take control of the machine remotely.

Commenting on bank security, PA says: “We certainly see lots of internet and mobile phone activity, where customers are using these devices to access their accounts. Therefore, it is an area where banks in particular are focusing a lot of their attention to prevent fraudulent activity and to prevent threats from materialising.”
