Debating challenges in the project management profession

In Project magazine’s Spring issue Ed Watson, programme management expert at PA Consulting Group, is quoted in an article summarising key highlights of a roundtable discussing the major challenges and opportunities facing the project management profession, and how project managers can deliver excellence in uncertain times.

Ed says that “change is a given”. He continues: “It has almost become a cliché to talk about change and disruption – the key is how we respond to it."

Ed also agrees that it was necessary to do the simple stuff effectively. He adds: “I have been surprised at how frequently the basic disciplines are passed by, such as having a clear frame of reference for scope. I’ve come in two or three years into some programmes to find there are several disparate interpretations of the vision, and people seem unperturbed about not knowing whether various large and costly components of work are in or out of scope.”
