Luis Ramos, energy and utilities expert at PA Consulting, discusses Mexico’s energy market.
One of the great challenges of the new federal government is related to gas, due to the increase in imports and the generation matrix. However, in order to achieve President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s proposals – better electricity rates and lower gasoline prices – it is necessary to develop energy markets.
Luis says that due to the policy change, it is reasonable to give a break to the energy bids to ensure that all processes are aligned with the objectives sought by the government.
He adds that this strategy is not unique to Mexico, and happens in other energy markets.
