Neue Zürcher Zeitung reports on the landmark ruling by the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig that the cities of Stuttgart and Duesseldorf could legally ban more polluting diesel from pollution-hit parts of the city.
Neue Zürcher Zeitung says the court ruling on diesel in Germany is a game changer – for car makers and for car retailers as well as for current car owners and future car buyers. Germany is close to driving diesel to death. Not so much on stock exchange where no big reaction occurred but in terms of impact on manufacturers and retailers, on owners and buyers of diesel cars the monumental court ruling has enormous blasting strength.
Thomas Goettle, head of automotive at PA Consulting Group, is quoted saying he could see a complete withdrawal from diesel in production by some car makers. Production plants for diesel vehicles might also be in danger now, while for some diesel engine suppliers (Bosch, Mahle), he could see reduced working hours in production.
