PA Consulting’s research on CO2 emissions is featured in an article in Handelsblatt. The article explains that VW’s CEO wants to transition the company into a digital company, following Tesla’s example. But there are issues with the key technology needed to drive that change – the software.
The article goes on to say his approach was outlined after the CEO returned from discussions with investors and analysts in New York. While there was a positive response from the capital representatives to the strategy of making Volkswagen the leading manufacturer of electric cars they also recognised the fact that Tesla's share price was soaring – and outperforming VW in terms of market capitalisation.
The article draws on PA’s research which found that Volkswagen could face fines of up to 4.5 billion Euros due to its failure to meet EU requirements for reductions in CO2 emissions. New, fully electric vehicles were supposed to solve the problem of fines. The ID.3 is already being produced in the Zwickau factory but due to software problems, thousands of these finished vehicles cannot be delivered.
