PA’s Tim Lawrence, global head of manufacturing, is quoted in an article on smart factories in the Financial Times’ special report on The World 2017.
The article looks at the transformation of the factory, following promises of a step-change in manufacturing efficiency and productivity.
The article goes on to explain that smart factories are also changing the employees – not necessarily the overall number but the nature of their jobs.
Tim explains that as automation has replaced traditional labour and data is being generated from new smart machines, humans will need to learn to do their jobs differently. He warns that not enough companies have begun to formulate strategies to retrain their existing workforces.
