Carmakers gear up for getting back to work

PA’s Tim Lawrence, manufacturing and supply chain expert, discusses what’s in store for the automotive industry as manufacturers return to the factories.

The article looks at the various global carmakers who are returning to work and the health and safety measures that they are putting in place for their staff.

Some carmakers are opting to produce a lower volume of cars to limit the number of staff at the site. This will slow the number of vehicles produced but Tim believes that this is not an immediate issue, given the current state of the economy.

Tim explains: “You can run the plant like this though it obviously wouldn’t be as efficient. You might lose 20-30 per cent of your efficiency, but if demand falls then output will have to come down anyway.”
