PA supply chain experts, Ed Savage and Tim Lawrence, are quoted in the Financial Times The Connected Business report on the challenges faced by modern airlines organising their supply chains.

There are up to 4 millions components involved in the manufacture of an airline and the supply chain delivers anything from nuts and bolts to complete sub-assemblies.

Commenting on the challenges faced by the airlines, Ed and Tim explain: “The sector is split between large groups, such as Rolls-Royce, that are global, and a very long tail of smaller companies,” explain Ed Savage and Tim Lawrence, supply chain experts at PA Consulting Group. “There are thousands of components in an aircraft and any one can stop it flying. There is a real logistical challenge in tracking all these components deep down into the supply chain.”
