Denmark most attractive country for green investments

Thomas Bo Christensen

17 February 2014

PA energy expert Svend Ulrik Nyholm is quoted in an article highlighting investment opportunities in Denmark’s energy sector.

According to PA Consulting Group’s Energy Investment Map, Denmark has more potential for green investments than any other country. This is primarily due to the fact that the country is expected to generate 50 per cent of its electricity from offshore wind by 2020. Moreover, Denmark is putting considerable effort into smart metering and smart technology to avoid supply issues within distribution and transmission.

“Denmark and Danish energy companies such as DONG are global leaders in the development of cost-efficient offshore energy production,” says Svend Ulrik.

According to Svend Ulrik, Denmark probably has huge shale gas reserves that, if exploited, could make the country a net exporter of gas. “Shale gas reserves have the potential to change Denmark’s status as an energy producer. However, it is uncertain whether Denmark will develop these reserves,” he comments.
