PA’s Ted Bissell, mobile business expert, is quoted in Data Informed, on digital wallets. Ted gives his views on the challenges digital wallets face for widespread adoption.

Ted comments on how, unlike cash transactions, payments made from digital wallets carry a rich digital signature and record who you are, where you are and when you are making a transaction: “The real battle should be about customer data. It’s emphatically not about the technology of the payment transaction itself.”

Privacy concerns are an issue when it’s possible to conduct such targeting with digital wallets. However it depends on the shopper. Ted explains that younger consumers are seen as having fewer privacy concerns: “There’s a generational shift taking place. The younger generation is part of a demographic segment that is still selecting brands, and tends to be very open to opening themselves up to digital interaction. Through social media such as Facebook and Twitter, they’re already doing it in a big way.”
