In a three-page article in Computerworld, PA's Fred Johnsen, enterprise resource planning expert, explains how CIOs can go about building a beneficial relationship with their ERP and applications outsourcing supplier.

Fred explains, for example, how CIOs should aim to create a mutually beneficial relationship and communicate with the supplier more effectively. He says: “In the worst-case scenario, if things go wrong, the CIO can lose his job. There is a lot of money at stake when you are trying to find the right supplier that matches both technical demands and the right price.”

He continues: “Understanding both client and supplier needs is vital; concentrating only on meeting the client’s requirements will result in a situation marked by mistrust, lack of collaboration and, ultimately, the involvement of lawyers.”

Furthermore, he encourages CIOs to look at the whole “lifecycle of outsourcing”, which includes the tendering process, the identification and evaluation of suppliers as well as contract negotiations: “Both client and supplier need to consider the entire lifecycle in order to minimise risks.”
