Christian Riekehr, PA business intelligence (BI) expert, features in an article in Computerworld. He gives his view on the future of BI and how big data and predictive analytics will have a major impact in the future.
Christian says: “BI and big data need to be integrated with the business’ purpose. So a clear understanding of core business and how to control/measure progress, as well as knowing where the business wants to be in three to five years, is needed.” He adds that big data and predictive analysis is a natural development within BI and will pave the way for many new business opportunities. Christian stresses that BI projects don’t necessarily need to be long term projects: “It depends on the maturity of the organisation. If an organisation is used to using BI for retrospective reporting, the organisation will have no problem about engaging in larger BI projects. It’s all about knowledge and processes.”
Christian adds that working with BI doesn’t necessarily require large investments in new technology: “The organisation needs to optimise its existing platform and then expand components and processes when needed.”
