Welsh Assembly Government announces drive for efficiencies

BBC Radio Wales
6 October 2009

Radio interview

Veera Johnson, Chief Executive of PA venture ProcServe, has been interviewed for BBC Radio Wales on the Welsh Assembly Government’s draft budget, which calls for departments to make efficiency savings.

Veera comments on whether cuts in central services is the panacea politicians are looking for to secure savings.  Veera highlights that efficiency savings is not about cutting front line services, but about driving efficiencies throughout the back office.  Enabling better buying, reducing paper bureaucracy and collaboration all create savings.

Veera points to ProcServe’s work on xchangewales in partnership with Value Wales. xchangewales has a target to create £200m worth of savings through better back office functions and improvements to procurement.

Veera goes on to conclude that jobs don’t have to go to create savings, pointing out that 10 to 15 per cent of savings can be made to the procurement budget alone through better processing.

You can listen to the interview in full here. Veera’s interview is 2 hours 11 minutes in.
