Angela Owen, founder of the Women in Defence Awards and senior advisor to PA Consulting is interviewed in a podcast about women in defence.
The interviewer asked Angela about her favourite elements of being in the army.
Angela says: “There are so many. I enjoyed the fact that it’s real. You’re doing something that really matters and makes a huge difference. You’re with people of the same thinking.”
Angela went on to talk about the Women in Defence Awards, sponsored by PA Consulting.
“We had 200 nominations in the first year, 380 in the second year and over 300 last year. Nominations are open now for our next awards,” she continues. “It’s just fantastic as it finds women like Michelle Partington, Woman of the Year at the 2018 Women in Defence Awards, whose story needs to be told.”
Angela adds: “There are awards open for individual women. There are also three awards that men can be entered for – and I’m really keen to get some of the men out there who do fantastic work in gender balance, in getting women interested in STEM and defence, or being part of an inclusive team. Let’s celebrate them, let’s hear some of their stories too.
She went on to say: “There are 10 categories in total. It’s easy to nominate. Nominations close on 10 May. If you ask me why a single nomination is worth it – it’s because you as a nominator have taken the time to write about someone that inspires you or whose story you think needs to be told. What better way is there to show them that you rate them, and that you think they deserve to be recognised.”
