Most companies implementing transformation programmes fail to realise the potential benefits in full, say the authors of this article. On average, most could improve the results they see by 50 per cent. So why do only a small number of companies succeed in achieving their original transformation objectives?
The major barriers are: failure to understand the key drivers for success, not having the right skills to deliver the transformation programme, and a lack of engagement by the business. By contrast, companies that implement transformation programmes successfully have a clearly defined project structure and pay close attention to parallel change initiatives. The business is actively involved in the transformation programme, and project teams are staffed with people who have the right skills. These companies also put emphasis on developing sustainable change competencies within the organisation.
