Big Pharma in trouble

"Seeking the next big wonder pill will not delay the inevitable; the reality is that healthcare is about to undergo a revolution."

Sir, Big Pharma is in trouble ("Searching for the next big wonder pill”, Law, July 22) . Seeking the next big wonder pill will not delay the inevitable; the reality is that healthcare is about to undergo the sort of revolution already experienced by almost every other industry sector, where modern technology, devices and information are used to provide customers with a better service while dramatically lowering costs.

New entrants to the healthcare sector are emerging — device/chip manufacturers and vendors, software/ application developers and network operators all view the healthcare sector as a growth opportunity. None are looking to develop blockbuster drugs. All are seeking to build sustainable business around more effective use of the drugs we already have.
