Extact of the Interview by Nuclear Energy Insider Staff

Q: Which O&M projects are you/PA working on right now and what are your aims for the next 6 months?

A: While PA Consulting Group (PA) has a wide range of service offerings; my group’s current nuclear efforts are associated with capital, rather than O&M projects.  We support utility executive management in their decision making and oversight of these projects, particularly in the area of understanding project risks and uncertainties, the range of potential cost and schedule outcomes associated with them, and ways those risks might be mitigated.

Q: How does PA differentiate its offerings from competitors?

A: Our risk assessments create unique models for each project which mimic the way each project is managed.  We assess standard areas of risks, but also identify detail risks that are specific to each project and quantify the impacts of each risk identified on both current project estimates and schedules.  We do not merely add uncertainty to existing projects schedules; instead we employ statistical distributions and Monte Carlo simulations to model the impact of uncertainties on outcomes.
