PA’s Søren Lehn, IT strategy expert, discusses the digitisation of businesses. Drawing an analogy with the storm that recently caused major damage across Northern Europe, Søren stresses that, just as you would never ask a dentist to rebuild your house, a company needs to consider carefully who in the organisation is made responsible for the digitisation of the business.

“Many organisations are so eager to strengthen their digital competencies and create digital teams and workforces that they fail to acknowledge the employees who have a true understanding of the digital business. Just because an employee is skilled doesn’t mean that he or she is the right person to solve the more specialised tasks,” says Søren.

According to Søren, the problem is not easily solved. Companies need to understand what a digital business really is and then find the right people to build it. This may mean the organisation needs to look for external help or strategic partnerships; the important thing is to find the right people.
