Function Specific Activities
The primary task of the job holder is to carry out and experimental work and evaluation of test samples to facilitate the fast-moving dynamic development of dry moulded fibre technology at PA. Working closely with our lab manager and scientists, the job holder is required to:
- Work with limited supervision to conduct day-to-day lab-scale hands-on activities.
- Prepare samples through various processing steps involving mechanical processing and chemical treatment.
- Evaluate mechanical and chemical properties of samples with standard and non-standard lab testing equipment.
- Measure and record data, maintain records and report results to wider team, interpret experimental data and observations, and participate in internal technical discussions.
- Maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies such as chemicals and equipment or performing other clerical tasks such as filing records, assist in warehousing and facility related tasks when necessary.
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures, COSHH and risk assessments, among others. Keep all equipment and work areas clean and free of debris.
- Report, communicate and participate in investigation and resolving of quality, technical and safety issues that may arise with testing set up, procedures and equipment, working with internal and external parties where necessary.
Participate in developing new testing methods or improving existing ones, provide inputs to the processes, results
Qualifications
- A HNC / Level 4 qualification or equivalent as a minimum, preferred in chemistry, applied chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, and relevant areas.
- Commercial experience within but not limited to a production QC or a scientific laboratory environment
- Knowledge of basic mechanical and chemical concepts required to prepare and analyse mechanical and chemical performances in lab.
- Experience working with laboratory and analytical equipment.
- Good basic computer skills with Microsoft Office.
- Capable of working with chemicals, following standard safe handling procedures.
Bonus Points for the following:
- Experience with SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) and their development and maintenance.
- Experience in using and maintaining laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Experience with Moulded Fibre manufacturing techniques and processes would be a plus, but not required.
