US energy reliability map

Explore electric reliability and how it varies by state, time, and class of utility. Reliability metrics are calculated depending on selections made and each graphic interacts with all the others. The information reflects the reported performance of investor owned utilities, excluding major storm events.

Reliability dashboard

Each map and chart shows SAIDI values:

  • Darker blue on the map reflects higher values
  • Lighter blue on the map reflects lower values

Note: Not all states have reported performance for investor owned utilities and these states are shown in grey.

Reliability has multiple standards in the industry and the common standard is used here:

  • SAIDI – System Average Interruption Duration Index: the average outage duration for each customer served measured in minutes per year
  • SAIFI – System Average Interruption Frequency Index: the average number of interruptions per year for each customer served
  • CAIDI – Customer Average Interruption Duration Index: the average outage duration given that an interruption occurs measured in minutes per year
