Energy advisory

Energy and water utilities operate in a landscape where shifting policy and regulation combine to make decisions on where and how to invest unusually complex. Our energy advisors provide expert support to enable utilities and investors to thrive in this constantly changing and challenging landscape.

Regulatory and capital investment expertise

We understand the complexities of the natural gas and oil, electric and water markets, and of investment decision-making and the associated stakeholder impacts. We work with private-equity firms, energy and water utilities, global corporations, law firms, investment banks and other clients to navigate through an uncertain market environment and prepare for operational change.

Energy economics expertise

We are experts across the entire energy value chain, from fuels through to power. Our energy economics team is experienced in assessing energy markets and asset investment opportunities and risks in the context of utility resource planning (customer perspective), merger & acquisition, finance, and capital investment decisions. We use industry-tested analytic models and methods that are grounded in reality.

We closely monitor country and regional environmental policies affecting the energy markets in general and the energy assets operating within. Our view of energy asset values reflects an integrated approach – combining a focus on near-term policies and regulations with attention to long-term fundamental drivers.

Our track record in energy advisory

We have advised on the acquisition, divestment, financing and appraisal of shareholder-owned utilities, municipalities, generation companies, all types of power generating assets, transmission lines, natural gas distribution businesses; totaling over $125 billion in value since 2011. For power generation, we have been involved in more than 175 transactions involving every power market in the US, accounting for over 200 GW of power generation (including natural gas, coal, nuclear, hydroelectric, wind, solar, and CHP generation and storage). We have developed an integrated and collaborative advisory and analytic approach to our market price and cash flow forecasts.
