Hot Topics Forum: LTE vs WiMAX and Next Generation Internet, 27 September 2007, London
The IET Hot Topics Forum is organised by the Communications Technical and Professional Network, Europe’s largest comms engineering community with 24,000 members from 120 countries.
The forum will consist of two sessions: LTE vs WiMAX and Next Generation Internet.
Mobile Internet usage has reached the mainstream, and as service offerings increase users will demand ever greater bandwidth. WiMAX, originally a high bandwidth fixed wireless access technology, hit the headlines as a rival to 3G when its mobile variant, backed by Intel, was released as a standard. However, 3G is had its own high-bandwidth technology in Long Term Evolution (LTE). Are these complementary or competing technologies?
The event will explore the current state of the art in both technologies and examine their predicted role in the future development of mobile networks. After listening to presentations from experts in the field, a debate will take place on competing technologies emerging in the marketplace and the challenge of choosing between LTE or WiMAX technologies.
