Process development
Maximizing process performance
When it comes to maximizing the performance of a complex manufacturing process, people all too often 'go for the low hanging fruit'. This is fine for some quick wins – but the larger harvest of wins remains out of reach. So where can the innovation come from that will enable smarter working and hence maximize process performance?
In-house engineering teams are a natural first port of call, offering practical knowledge of the manufacturing process. However, these teams usually lack the broader technology skills and specialist tools needed to make major breakthroughs. Vendors of equipment are often seen as the right way to access new technology, but the range of technology offered is likely to be a small subset of what is more widely available.
As a result, manufacturers are increasingly forming teams of internal experts, equipment vendors and development organizations such as PA's Technology Group to conduct process development that maximizes performance by:
- finding innovative solutions from the broad range of technology options
- using specialist development facilities for prototyping and overcoming technical risk
- gaining access to state-of-the-art technology development tools and expertise.
