Home entertainment convergence
What is it?
Convergence is the latest term to be applied to the long forecast and much hyped ‘next big thing’ in home entertainment. Home entertainment has been booming since the mid-nineties with consumers accumulating products and services (TVs, DVD players, HiFi, PCs, set-top boxes (STB), games consoles, digital cameras, etc) usually from a wide range of suppliers and manufacturers.
Many living rooms are now characterized by tangles of cables and mains extensions as increasingly confused users grapple to achieve connectivity and interoperability between devices.
Convergence represents the efforts by the industry to address these issues by improving connectivity options and increasingly, by offering multifunctional devices.
