It’s all go being a legal adviser to a major corporation, especially when working in the field of mergers and acquisitions. Let’s join Matthias Fischer, of Kohl und Wagner corporate attorneys, on a critical day of a major acquisition that they are managing. It is a demanding time but technology is on hand to make things run smoothly and, in the end, save the day.

Matthias is on the train. He knows this will be the only calm part of his day. His client, Königreich is hoping to buy Heilen right out from under the noses of their rivals Lächelnd-Bruder. Heilen isn’t all that profitable, he knows, but one of the patents they hold is for a new derivative of their cancer treatment that has the potential to be very lucrative in the future. Taking advantage of the peace and quiet of the journey, he logs on to his e-mail system. Some of the e-mails are confidential so cannot be opened until his PC is directly connected to the office network. However, he is able to clear a good deal of general correspondence and organizse his day around the most urgent needs of the moment.

When Matthias gets into work, his mobile phone (which includes an RFID token unique to him) alerts the network that he is in the office. His office phone logs on, changing his voicemail message appropriately, and the office diary shows him as in the building. First stop is the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee – probably the only one he’ll get all day!
