The Zanzibar Managed Service
Zanzibar – More than a marketplace
An eProcurement solution for public sector organisations
This publication explains the benefits of the Zanzibar Managed Service from the perspectives of Buyers and Suppliers. It highlights the innovative and unique nature of the Zanzibar system and its substantial efficiency gains being achieved across the UK public sector.
The Zanzibar Managed Service is an innovative Web-enabled Purchase-to-Payment (P2P) system and eMarketplace available to all public sector organisations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland under an OGCbuying.solutions Framework Agreement. Zanzibar is a key part of the UK Government's efficiency agenda and supports both the SME and Sustainability targets for public sector organisations.
The service was launched in February 2006 and is a key part of the Government’s procurement strategy. This innovative system enables public sector buyers and their suppliers to link up over the Internet and conduct end-to-end transactions of requisitions, orders and invoices.
Zanzibar's many benefits include:
- maximising efficiencies in UK public sector procurement
- making the UK public sector marketplace more attractive to suppliers
- providing a vehicle which acts a catalyst to collaborative opportunities
- accelerating eProcurement's take-up in larger organisations
- providing a low-cost eProcurement solution for smaller public sector organisations.
The Zanzibar system has five core elements :
-
A public sector marketplace – with hosted catalogues and the ability to ‘punch out’ to external suppliers.
-
An optional P2P system – for you to access the marketplace, via a Web browser, send orders and receive invoices.
-
A data warehouse – with secure access to information about all the transactions that have passed through Zanzibar.
-
A supplier portal – enabling single-point access for suppliers
-
Integration facilities – allowing you and your suppliers to integrate existing eProcurement, finance and sales order systems with Zanzibar.
