Major wireless operator - Reorganized product development teams improve time to market

Facing increased competition and industry consolidation, a major US wireless operator with over 15 million subscribers engaged PA Consulting Group to help reorganize its product development function. The client recognized that outperforming the competition and delivering higher levels of shareholder returns requires a product development function that rapidly and efficiently commercializes new products.

By leveraging PA’s global expertise in information-based process reengineering, we were able to develop a comprehensive organization model that reduced time to market for innovative new products by 20 to 30%. The key to success in this case was understanding how increasingly complex integration projects affect an organization. Like most telecommunications services companies, our client was facing more complex product-integration challenges than they had ever faced. The existing organization, however, was not well equipped for its new workload, which requires increased cross-functional teams and a greater sensef project ownership.
