3G essential intellectual property - signs of hope
PA's Dr Mark Paxman writes in the GSM Daily, published by Mobile Communications International
Essential intellectual property (IP) in second generation wireless systems has always been a major headache - and cost - for manufacturers. Compared with previous analogue standards, 2G was much more complex, and was developed collaboratively by many companies - each with an extensive patent portfolio. The result in GSM for example, led to around 16 companies owning essential IP, each with a few tens of key patents.
PA's Dr Paxman talks about the IP issues facing 3G.
