Applying a benefits driven approach to GIS implementation
GIS technology and spatial information provides extensive opportunity to add value within any organization. However, articulating and quantifying the monetary return of investment (ROI) in a GIS program is not always easy. GIS advocates are often asked to demonstrate the real tangible value delivered by GIS-related initiatives. This could be when building the initial business case, as part of annual budget submission, or during a program audit or review.
This article provides an overview of how to pragmatically quantify, justify and convince executives of the real value potential of GIS by using a structured approach to modeling benefits delivered.
